Australian Shiraz Wine Dinner at Manhattan Country Club

VINOQUEST Presents:

Australia Meets Manhattan Beach!

Australian Shiraz Wine Dinner at Manhattan Country Club
Friday, September 27th, 2002, 6:30 p.m.

Come join VinoQuest for an incredible evening of food and wine at Manhattan Country Club! The Club is extremely fortunate to have chef Dominique Crenn, among the top chefs in the South Bay. Dominique has prepared a unique, exotic four-course menu, specially matched to these amazing Australian wines by Dominique herself and Todd Serota, president of VinoQuest. This special menu includes tender filet mignon and lamb loin, accompanied by hedonistically rich foie gras and truffles.

And what about the wines? For the last ten years, and particularly in the last five, Australia has been producing wines of mind-boggling quality (to paraphrase Robert Parker!), rivaling and often surpassing the best wines in other prominent wine regions around the world. While a wide variety of grapes are grown and vinified in Australia, Shiraz (called Syrah in other areas of the world, including California) is what has put this continent-in-a-country on the world oenology map. We’ll get to drink some of Australia’s best Shirazes at this dinner, most of them being of such high quality and made in such small quantities that they are known as “cult” wines. The specific wines we’ll be enjoying, two of which (Greenock Creek and Fox Creek) were scored above 96 points by Robert Parker and one of which (E&E Black Pepper) was scored 97 points by The Wine Spectator and named one of their “Top 10 Wines of the Year” a few years ago, are:

bullet’97 Charles Melton Shiraz
bullet’97 Turkey Flat Shiraz
bullet’96 Henschke Mt. Edelstone Shiraz
bullet’96 Barossa Valley Estate E&E Black Pepper Shiraz
bullet’96 Greenock Creek Seven Acre Shiraz
bullet’97 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz
bulletSurprise Aussie “Sticky” Dessert Wine

The cost for this extravaganza is $125 per person. As always, the event will be conducted in an educational format by Todd Serota, with open discussion of each of the wines, a comparison of wines in the same flight and across flights and an analysis of the wine and food pairings. Additionally, VinoQuest will be offering a special 10% discount on the wines served if you purchase them that evening.
